Essex County Fair
Description of Event
The 1st Essex Clinton County Fair was organized by Elkanah Watson, the father of county fairs, in 1848 to show his prize animals. The Essex County fair continues this tradition with the 166th annual Agricultural Fair. The fair moved to Westport in 1865 and continues to have horse (harness) racing, features many Animal Shows. A few are: 80 classes of horse competitions, horse pulls, dog agility, cattle judging plus Motor Sports: figure 8 races, demolition derby, truck and tractor pulls. Daily there will be live entertainment, free professional face painting, local and carnival foods, maple sugar shack, free carnival rides, live demonstrations, exhibits.
