Meadowmount School of Music
Founded in 1944 by Ivan Galamian, the Meadowmount School of Music, located at the base of Mount Discovery in Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, offers exceptional string players and pianists a seven-week-long intensive program of private study and chamber music coaching with our dedicated and internationally recognized faculty. Weekly performances include the Meadowmount faculty, visiting artists, and student concerts both on campus and in the community.
Our alumni are among the concertmasters and principal players of the world’s leading orchestras and the distinguished artist teachers of our major conservatories.
The list of distinguished alumni who have spent summers at Meadowmount over the years is extensive, and many artists such as Michael Rabin, Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Jamie Laredo, Kyung Wha Chung, Arnold Steinhardt, Joshua Bell, James Ehnes, Lynn Harrell and Yo-Yo Ma went on to establish international careers.
Capacity And Seating Type (Stadium, Folding Chair, Balcony)
Meadowmount concerts take place at the 500-seat Ed Lee and Jean Campe Memorial Concert Hall. We recommend bringing a seat cushion for our wooden folding chairs, some cushions are available at the door. All seating is general admission.
Meadowmount presents concerts on campus at least three times a week during our seven week summer season. Concerts feature students, faculty, and distinguished guest artists in small chamber music groups and solo performances.
Our off-campus community concerts take place in Elizabethtown, Essex, Keene Valley, Westport, and Plattsburgh.
These inspiring performances feature young artists who exemplify the legendary Meadowmount School of Music tradition of excellence and pursuit of the highest professional standards. Concert recordings are also available for purchase.
